WhatT Time oF Year is Best for Your Hawaii Elopement

When planning your elopement in Hawaii, it is essential to consider the weather and tourist seasons. The best time for an elopement is typically during the shoulder seasons, which are late spring (April to June) and early fall (September to November). During these months, you can expect milder temperatures, fewer crowds, and more affordable accommodations. Additionally, the natural beauty of Hawaii is at its peak, providing a stunning backdrop for your special day. It is advisable to check local events and holidays, as these can affect both availability and pricing. Ultimately, choosing the right time will ensure a memorable and intimate experience for you and your partner.

**Fall / Winter in Hawaii**

Fall / Winter in Hawaii, from October to April and presents an ideal backdrop for elopements, featuring average temperatures around 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Although this period coincides with Hawaii’s rainy season, localized rainstorms typically affect only specific areas such as the windward side and valley’s, often leaving other parts of the islands sunny and dryer. Therefore, rain is rarely a hindrance to outdoor plans. Ask about which locations will offer a better chance of a sunny day.

**Summer in Hawaii**

From May to October, Hawaii experiences its spring / summer season, characterized by warm temperatures averaging around 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The North Shore beaches offer calmer waters, making them perfect for relaxation, particularly on hot days. However, this season also brings larger crowds, so it’s advisable to plan your visit accordingly. Additionally, summer marks Hawaii’s hurricane season. While significant storms are uncommon, it’s prudent to stay informed about weather conditions. If you are considering a summer elopement, the optimal months to visit are April, May, or late September through early October, as these times typically provide pleasant weather, fewer tourists, and attractive deals on accommodations and activities.

I highly recommend holding your elopement during the week especially Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are optimum for less crowds.

The Best locations to Elope in Hawaii

Before exploring the top elopement destinations in Hawaii, it is crucial to recognize that many online images showcasing these romantic settings may have been captured in restricted areas. Each island boasts renowned locations that do not permit ceremonies or photography. While it can be disheartening to discover these limitations, adhering to the established guidelines is essential in preserving the natural beauty of these sites for future generations. I’m happy to help you secure a location and to ensure that it is indeed legal to hold your ceremony there.

Do We Need a Officiant and Witnesses for Our Hawaii Elopement

Yes, you’ll need to hire a an officiant for your wedding ceremony. Here in Hawaii, your ceremony must be performed by a state-approved “marriage performer” and you do not need any witnesses. A marriage performer is someone who is either ordained or legal to perform your ceremony lke a judge for example. I personally have served as a witness for many of my couples who wnated the reassurance that they did in fact get married! If you’re looking for an officant, I know many that can help guide you through your ceremony and even writing your own vows.

Do I Need a Permit to Marry in Hawaii

The short answer is yes. To legally marry on the beaches of Hawaii, you’ll need a permit. There are many places that are legal to do so and as your local expert, I can help you through this process. Your officiant should also be able to obtain the proper permit for your ceremony. The permit fee ranges from $50 to $100. Many popular spots require a permit to legally hold a commercial activity (like a wedding ceremony with vendors) on public land and if it’s not on the DLNR website or the Open Access Website, you can not hold a wedding ceremony there.

Top Activities To Do While In Hawaii

While in Hawaii, I highly recommend incorporating a couple of excursions in addition to  your elopement day. Here are some engaging ideas to consider:
– Go whale watching (the best time December – March)
– Go surfing depending on your level and time of year, Waikiki Beach to the North Shore offer great places to go on Oahu (which in my opinion has the best surfing on the islands).
– Experience zip-lining
– Enjoy a helicopter tour (Blue Hawaiian or Paradise are the best)
– Go snorkeling
– Explore breathtaking waterfalls
– Venture into Hawaii’s backcountry on an ATV
– Take a tour of iconic movie sites
If you want to incorporate these into your day to be captured all the better, I’m always up for an adventure to help you capture it.
