I can’t believe that I haven’t posted this wedding yet so please accept my humble apologies! Arlene and Kendall met in college and started dating straight away. I loved that they each brought their cultures into the wedding day.
Kendall’s mother helped into his traditional kimono and geta. A beautiful but simple design not to take away from his bride. Minister Mike presided over the nuptials which brought in traditions from Arlene. Being Filipino, each Kendall and Arlene had sponsors. Ceremonial Sponsors are typically God parents, witnesses and bridal party. The wedding attendants are responsible for the specials parts of the ceremony such as lighting the wedding candles, placing the veil and cords on the couple. where a younger child will carry the rings and coins.
A special tradition is the veiling ritual , a set of sponsors will then drape a cord over the shoulders of the groom and the bride. This decorative cord is called the yugal and is customarily shaped or looped to form the infinity sign, to symbolise “everlasting fidelity”.
It was a beautiful day in Lai’e and fun was had by all. It was particularly hot day and there was talk about Arlene and Kendall jumping in the pool…Being the instagtor that I am, I totally encouraged them to well, jump in!
