This is our third in a series of five Oahu Beaches we love for weddings. We already met Waimanalo and Makapu’u. I remember planning my first trip to Hawaii and being so excited about finally seeing the famed Waikiki Beach. I was filled with images of surfers riding this beach and beach parties abound. But times for sure have changed the landscape of Waikiki and its beaches. Now it’s filled with hi-rise hotels and shopping centers to attract tourists from other countries. There’s still surf and beach but far more commercial in feeling. Even with all the hubbub of Waikiki, there is one little beach tucked quietly behind the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the famed Ilikai Hotel called Kahanamoku Beach in which many choose to exchange their Hawaii Wedding Vows.
This are is only one of few that you can actually have a wedding on the beaches of Waikiki. It’s ideal for those who are eloping or if you have a small party of up to around 10 guests.
Even though it’s situated right off a parking lot and your first reaction may not be positive, trust me, this little gem of a beach is perfect to marry. You’ll need your officiant to obtain the right-of-entry permit for you.
Not only do I love this area for weddings but also for engagement sessions. It’s convenient to all area hotels by either a short walk or a quick cab ride.
It’s a short walk to onto the beach where your ceremony will take place. There are many places for photo opportunities in and around the area and you’d never know that you were in a tiny area with dramatic results. Believe it or not, there aren’t a ton of people hanging around this beach and having folks in the background isn’t too much of an issue. Some times we get blessed with fireworks!
My favorite reason is that there’s perfect view of iconic Diamond Head and what a better way to complete your big day!
If Mother Nature cooperates, the sunsets are amazing!
