We photographed April + Jacob a few months ago for their pre-wedding shoot and now it was time for their big day! We met up at the Hale Koa Hotel for the pre-wedding and some portraits in the Mailie Garden. They were married in the beautiful Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel at the Kamehameha School. The chapel only allows us to photograph without flash and mostly from the last pew which makes it a challenge but it’s a beautiful chapel all the same. We wish April + Jacob all the best on their journey. Enjoy!

A Girl’s Guide to Surviving a Bridal Expo

Congratulations your engaged! Now it’s time to plan your dream wedding. What better way to start than attending the Hawaii Bridal Expo…

Attending the Hawaii Bridal Expo is a fabulous way to gather and shop vendors all in one place. Attending an Expo can be an overwhelming endeavor with the bustling crowd and the many exhibitor booths to check out, a novice can get lost. I remember attending my first trade show and I almost passed out I was so overwhelmed with the crowd and exhibits, I decided I needed a game plan for the next year. So with some good planning you can navigate your way around and enjoy yourself!

Rsearch the Hawaii Bridal Expo – find out which vendors are going to be exhibiting there and plan on which ones you’ll want to connect with. With this in mind, know which vendors you already have booked and save time skipping over them.
Create a Wedding email address – A no brainer, this gives you one place to have all your wedding information in one place and not have your regular email inundated with vendor emails after the show.

Round up your entourage – I suggest two or three people at most ~ your fiancee, mother, sister, maid of honor, or bff. The expo is a buffet of exhibitors and too big of entourage may keep you lingering around when you want to move on to the next.
Bring Pre-Printed Address Labels – Be sure to include your name, your fiancee’s name, wedding date (if you have one set), mailing address, (wedding) email address, phone number. You can use these for vendors asking for your info and enter to win prizes and special offers.
Pre-Register for the Hawaii Bridal Expo – you can do that here. www.bridesclub.com there’s even a two-for-one coupon! This way you can avoid having to do so upon arrival and pretty much walk in. And get there early!

Day of the Expo – Dress to impress but, be comfortable, you can’t walk around in 4” heels for very long so wear comfortable shoes. Guys, wear a button down or polo shirt and jeans. Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated – yes, they’ll be food available but, bring it yourself you’ll be happy you did. Bring a accordion folder or notebook to organize all the information collected. This way you can follow up efficiently after the expo.

Bring your camera and take pictures of what you like… this way you’ll remember when you get home.

Keep your calendar ready – Many exhibitors will want to book consultations with you after the expo.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or even ask vendors if they’re running an Expo special.
Did I mention wear comfortable shoes yet? Oh I did. I’ll remind you here again
Enjoy the Expo – Make a day of it – Enjoy the sampling, entertainment, and excitement…this is your time after all!

Juliette & Ricky ~ North Shore Oahu ~ 11.11.11

I headed up to the North Shore of Oahu for Juliette & Ricky’s wedding which was held on the busiest day of the year being 11.11.11 and a little thing called APEC in town. But never mind that. I took the wonderful drive up what we call the “Eastside” which tends to be longer and quite majestic. Back to Juliette & Ricky… It was an amazing day up on the North Shore and we met up with everyone just on the other side of Sunset Beach where they had a Hawaiian ceremony performed by Kahu Ryan and we were blessed with yet another majestic day in Hawaii Nei. enjoy!

This is the Honi. In ancient Hawaiian times Hawaiians greeted each other by touching the bridges of the nose and means kiss. It’s a greeting that it represents the exchange of ha, breath of life and mana, spiritual power between two people.

April & Jacob ~ Pre-Wedding Shoot

We headed up the the North Shore one more time (really, I should just move there) and this time it’s for a fabulous couple April & Jacob. They also wanted a few images with their son who could smile just by being tickled. We checked out a few places in Haleiwa including, Matsumodo’s General store, known for their shave ice, the famous Haleiwa bridge, and Surf N Sea. We then headed over to a favorite spot for sunset and we were quite lucky, the the rain came in from both sides but didn’t reach us and yet, we were treated to a gorgeous sunset! And I should mention here that October is the beginning of rainy season so, you’ll never know what you’ll encounter. It has been on and off down on the south shore but as luck would have it, I had a friend staying close by. So with modern technology, we were able to text pictures of the sky and up-to-date weather! Mahalos SAJ much appreciated the help! We’re stoked to be photographing their wedding along with IMF Visions in January 2012 so stay tuned.

I love the kid’s face to the right… I wonder if he knows he made the cut?

Jessica & Kurt ~ a North Shore Adventure

Jessica & Kurt, from southern New Jersey decided that Hawaii was the perfect location for their wedding. Now for those of who know me, I’m a Jersey girl so, when Jessica contacted me to photograph he wedding, I was super excited (I mean we’re Jersey girls, right?!?). She and Kurt decided on Waimaea Bay, a famous surf location here in the winter months where we hope for the Eddie Aikau each year where the waves must be 20 feet in order to call the competition. Okay, back to Jessica & Kurt, we met up with them and a few family members to document and create some beautiful images…. enjoy!

Maggie & Gywn ~ First Look North Shore

I met Maggie & Gywn through a referral (which we LOVE!!!) mahalo Tina for it. Maggie & Gywn were married at a private estate up on the North Shore of Oahu, on my favorite beach of mine, Ke Iki. Capt. Johnny & I had a fabulous time photographing them. We did wind up taking them over to the lava rock for an adventurous walk to capture some killer images. Leigh & Mayur ~ Kailua Wedding ~ First Look

I love my referrals! You just never know where they’re going to come from. I received two messages from FaceBook a while back from friends looking for a photographer for a friend of a friend from L.A. I was super stoked to have gotten the chance to fly over to Maui (my favorite island) to photograph Eleni and & Matt’s wedding. Along with the fabulous and talented Wedding Planner, Tori Richards from Hawaiian Island Wedding Planners, created a beautiful ceremony and reception at the Marriott Waialua.
